Rick Perry for President? Buyer beware...and be scared! (by anon)

So I heard about this Rick Perry guy recently and after finding out he was ahead in the polls, meaning he could possibly be elected president in the not so far away future, I decided to do a little research to find out why this guy was so popular (and why my mom thought he was an alright guy). Here’s some stuff I found out:

1) He’s a good Christian who supports banning gay-marriage and abortion. He would like to see Creationism taught along side Evolution in schools (although he supposedly thinks the government shouldn't have a role in education...)
2) He has created a lot of jobs, and will (somehow) create millions more once he becomes president.
3) He wants to keep government spending and federal regulations to a minimum (advocates for smaller government).
4) He has cut a lot of taxes (property & small business).
5) He is really into defense and securing our borders.

He doesn't sound too bad so far I guess.

6) He does not believe that humans are causing climate change, thus does not support spending for new technology/research for alternative energy and such. He also claims that scientists falsify information (because of an agenda to get money for projects) to spread the lie that we are causing global warming.
7) He once signed an executive order that required young girls to get the HPV vaccine (it didn’t go through).
8) He wants to save spending by putting a freeze on all regulations (like those of the FDA and EPA for example).

It gets worse:

8) He is highly funded by the oil companies.
9) He met with the Bilderberg group, which from what I’ve gathered is made up of international banking and corporate elitists who supposedly have secret plans to make major changes such as creating a union between Canada, U.S., and Mexico, and even a “New World Order”. These could be mere conspiracies, but I would not call them impossibilities.
10) The reason for number 7 above - he received money, as a lobbying effort, from the pharmaceutical company marketing the vaccine. He has reversed his stance now that he is running for president (a lot of Christians were unhappy with his previous actions, but now they see how he was just concerned for humanity, and he made a mistake by signing the order, so he will still have their vote).
11) He talks about creating a lot of jobs and keeping government small, but he’s created twice as many public jobs as private jobs.
12) His “moratorium on all regulations” could really hurt us – here’s what it said on thinkprogress.org:
***
ThinkProgress’ Brad Johnson writes about Rick Perry’s Tea Party-esque call for a halt to all federal regulations:
“We’re sending out a request today asking President Obama to put a moratorium on all regulations,” Perry said on WHO radio in Iowa, recorded live by ThinkProgress.
Under such a moratorium, the Food and Drug Administration would stop approving new drugs and preventing human experimentation; the USDA would stop checking for food safety; the EPA would stop monitoring for poisons in drinking water; the Library of Congress would stop loaning materials to blind people; the NTSB would stop investigating airplane accidents; HHS would end Medicare payments; no more patents, copyrights, or trademarks would be issued; DHS would stop protecting chemical facilities from terrorist attacks; the Treasury would stop printing currency; financial sanctions on hostile nations like North Korea and Iran would end; and the Federal Reserve System would shut down.

Getting scared yet? I am. The more information I’m looking up about this guy, the more fake and ultimately threatening I find him to be. He seems to be getting pushed through the mainstream right-wing media and people could very well be inclined to vote for him. On his campaign site it says everything he wants to do, but does not explain how he is going to do anything, which is rather frightening. All it says is how he can create jobs, cut taxes, cut spending, and increase security. As far as healthcare – he thinks in order to get everyone healthcare, jobs must be created so more people can take advantage of employer sponsored health insurance. Another thing that I read on his campaign page that bothered me was the phrase, “peace through strength”.

I may have only barely scratched the surface with my research, but from what I’ve seen so far, I’m terrified. I’m terrified that this guy will become president, and some really bad things will happen. I believe this man isn’t honest, and I believe he has a lot to hide. I’m not buying what he’s selling – he’s a dirty politician, and clearly his whole image is a façade.  It has even been said that he is a “pseudo-Tea Partier” (he just wants the tea-party followers’ votes) and just another puppet controlled by the higher international powers. He’s a wolf in sheep’s clothing – he could look good to many conservatives on the surface, but upon deeper investigation, this guy could make some drastic changes happen for the worse, and we could all be in really deep shit before we know it. Look at history – things like this have happened before. What we don’t see as a threat could suddenly creep up on us and change our lives forever; we must not let ourselves be fooled.

Maybe I’m just super paranoid, overreacting, and crazy, but I honestly think we need to wake up and realize we’re not in dreamland; this is real danger we are facing. Please do the research – see the link I posted above, find out more on your own and make the call for yourself – the right information is out there, we just have to dig deep and wide to find the pieces and then connect them to create a bigger picture, and then collaborate on what that picture truly is.

Here is a link to a video (take it or leave it, it’s about conspiracies, still interesting, yet perhaps not entirely true as all conspiracies tend to be somewhat far-fetched…):

And remember - it’s better to have the illusion of danger than the illusion of safety.

  1. You raise some good points in your post that we need to be aware of as we elect the next president in 2012, but given the current array of candidates in the race from Bachman to Obama, none of them are really ideal. So what do we do? I can tell you want I am going to do. I am going to vote for the lesser evil, and in this case that's Obama. Unfortunately, this is the best that we can do, given the electoral process. By the way, every president elected since 2000 has carried Wisconsin. I could be wrong here but Perry cannot carry Wisconsin. For Perry to win, he has to carry Wisconsin, Ohio and Florida. Give the population array, Red and Blue states, it will once again come down to these three states, especially Ohio and Florida. Perry is too extreme for the country as a whole. The rest of the GOP candidates do not have a chance to beat Obama.

  2. It does not matter what you say. Get ready for President Perry! He's coming down the pike. He's new and good looking and not Obama. Brace yourselves!

  3. Nope, does not matter what I say, so do the math. Bush stole the election from Gore and Kerry. An extreme candidate like Perry cannot beat Obama period. Follow my logic - add up the electoral votes with me. CA 55, ILL 21, NY 31, Maryland 10, Michigan 17, Conn 7, PA 21, Minn 10. These states are usually blue states, although Bush carried a couple of them against Kerry. This gives Obama around 182 in the bank votes. Wisconsin 21, Ohio 20, and Florida 27, even without picking up a few of the smaller states just about gets him to 270. The key to this election will once again be Ohio, Florida and Wisconsin?. Whichever candidate carries these three states will be the next president of the United States.

  4. You're right. It doesn't matter what you say. It matters what Americans think. If the economy does not pick up, if unemployment remains about where it is right now, if consumer confidence continues on its present track, Obama will not win. History is overwhelmingly against him. No incumbent president has won an election with the unemployment anywhere near this high. People vote according to how they feel about their own financial situations. For whatever reason, Obama is doing his job well. You can blame the Republicans (rightfully!), but the burden of responsibility lies with the head, Obama. Perry will bring different ideas (better? no), and people will see that as good. People will just want someone (almost anyone!) different.

If Perry gets the nomination, I bet he takes Wisconsin, Ohio, and Florida. Wisconsin would even re-elect Walker! Why wouldn't they vote for Perry? Your math has too many hidden assumptions siding with Obama. There is great reason to be skeptical about that.

Getting ready for President Perry? You'd better be.

  5. @Anon 3:34 - What about Ron Paul? Has everyone forgotten about him, or does everyone just think he's a crack pot old guy who won't know the first thing to do as president?? I personally think he would be the most ideal (but he's really being kept under wraps it seems by the media, and people seem to be against him or see him as a joke), more so than Obama (however, in the event that it is between Obama and Perry, I would surely vote Obama).

@Everyone else - sounds like you guys are really preparing for (and already accepting) Rick Perry's presidency. The only preparation anyone should be making for this guy's being in office is a passport and a one-way ticket across the sea. That's what my plans are anyway.
Basically it sounds like everyone believes Perry will become president, which is very very likely, particularly because he is going to appear as the guy who's going to "get America working again" by creating millions of new jobs and cutting taxes and government spending. Unfortunately, America is too stupid to ask, "how?" and really get down to the details of this guy's plans.
Put it together - millions of new jobs, big border security, no new taxes, keep the government out of our lives, forget about the environment, keep supporting big oil, learn about Creationism in school, ban gay marriage, forget drug legalization, ban abortions... and we have "Peace Through Strength" (whatever the fuck that means).
Do we really know what we're in for here if this guy gets in? How do we know some ultra crazy things won't happen? Like... we get locked in this country (or the new union), everyone basically becomes a slave for the American government (the biggest corporation in the world I think), we get tons of jobs but the working conditions are terrible and the pay is little (and unions no longer exist - they seem to be on the way out already) so although we may not be paying more taxes, we're still basically paying the government with our labor. Meanwhile the government stays out of our lives and spends little to nothing on social programs, like education & healthcare (keeping the promise of small government), but it amplifies defense and security WITHIN the borders (increasing police force) and it turns out that the government ends up owning our lives more than it already does now, and as long as we follow what it wants us to do, the government will not have to physically interfere, because it will own us and we'll be taken care of just enough to survive and continue working (and I'm sure we'll still have sports and cigarettes and booze). Get it? It's like 1984. Think about it. It's scary.. really scary.

  6. Not everyone. Here is an exert from a piece on Slate, check it out.

History is on President Obama’s side as the 2012 elections approach. And by "history" we mean Allan Lichtman, an American University professor who has gone 7-for-7 at predicting presidential elections since he developed his candidate-picking system roughly two decades ago.

Lichtman says that based on the 13 criteria he has used to correctly forecast every presidential election since Ronald Reagan’s re-election victory in 1984, Team Obama can rest easy. "Even if I am being conservative, I don’t see how Obama can lose," Lichtman told US News.

The college professor developed his system back in 1981 and published the rather basic formula in his book, The Keys to the White House. Basically, the "keys" test the recent performance of the party that is currently in the White House; according to US News, if six or more of them go against the party in power, then the opposing party can start picking out the bands they want at the inaugural ball.

"The keys have figured into popular politics a bit," Lichtman says. "They’ve never missed. They’ve been right seven elections in a row. A number that goes way beyond statistical significance in a record no other system even comes close to."

So hold off on purchasing the ticket, the O man still has 4 more years and we will see his two cute little girls go off to college.

  7. Regarding Ron Paul, he would run strong against Obama but he would get beat too. Besides, the GOP would never give him the green light. I like Paul but I would not vote for him. Let me end with a quote someone made about General Eisenhower after he won the presidency. "Old Ike is end for a rude awakening, as he will soon learn that he does not control squat." Bush had control of both the Senate and the House and was defeated on many of his pet projects such as gutting social security. All presidents, including Perry if he wins, have to govern from the center. It is a myth that a president can do anything he wants.

  9. Lets get it working again like in Texas. You are the man or woman. Rick Perry for president. Show us the way to the promise land. Praise Jesus!

  10. @anon 4:21 - sure the president himself may not be able to do anything he wants, but his puppeteers know what they want, and they know how to get it by getting Perry in office.

@anon 4:13 - Relying on probability based on the outcome of some guys past predictions? That doesn't necessarily mean Perry will lose and we have nothing to worry about. No one can really know what's going to happen, and I wouldn't see safety in some guys predictions. Anything can happen. We could be in for some major surprises.

    @online roulette - WTF?

    ReplyDelete
  11. 421 and 413, it not some guys, it is a professor who has predicted the winner of past elections. If the weather people predict that a category 5 hurricane is coming right at you, you should listen and then start running, follow the animals, they heeded the prediction and have already left for high ground. Its humans who dismiss predictions who end up getting fucked up.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Well in this case, if we dismissed the prediction that Perry will NOT win the election, we would probably be safer. It's more dangerous to believe he won't win, when chances are still high that he will, than it is to believe he will win when the prediction says he won't. By heeding the prediction, we're more likely to "end up getting fucked up", because we won't be prepared in case the prediction is wrong, and Perry actually DOES become president.

  13. How can you possibly like Ron Paul?? He's a damn Ayn Rand follower. That means he cares squat about the poor, the needy, the sick, and the elderly. All he cares about is getting rid of all regulations so that capitalism can flow to its heart's content. It would be the end of all social programs.

Oh wait, that's Rick Perry too! We're so fucked.

  14. Given the extremely dismal job report released today, Perry (if he tones down) and Romney chances of being the next President have improved. If Romney comes out in favor of social security and medicate he will cut Perry's support among senior tea party. Obama has to come out swinging next week on the job plan or he may be going home to Chicago for good.

  15. Perry interned during several summers with the Southwestern Company, as a door-to-door book salesman.
